Instructions

Wario Land II removes the usual platformer stakes of losing lives or health — getting hit by an enemy or hazard doesn't kill Wario, it transforms him into a temporary state instead, like being flattened paper-thin, set on fire, frozen solid, or puffed up, each with its own new abilities and limitations.

These states are frequently the intended solution to a level's obstacles rather than something to avoid — being flattened lets you slide under narrow gaps, being on fire lets you burn through certain obstacles, and other states unlock their own specific interactions.

The game also branches: certain choices and paths through a level lead to different subsequent levels and eventually different endings, so exploring off the obvious route can meaningfully change where the story goes rather than just adding bonus content.

Tips to Master Wario Land II

Get hit on purpose when a level seems designed around it — a state change that looks like a setback is very often the actual solution to a nearby obstacle.

Explore branching paths deliberately

Since different routes lead to different levels and endings, backtracking to try a path you skipped is a legitimate way to see more of the game, not just a detour.

Learn what each state can and can't do

Every transformation changes Wario's abilities in a specific way, so understanding each one's strengths avoids wasted time trying to solve a puzzle in a state that isn't built for it.
