Instructions

Illusion of Gaia follows Will, a young psychic who can transform his statue companions into two alternate forms — Freedan, a sword-wielding warrior, and Shadow, a fast, evasive fighter — each suited to different enemies and obstacles.

Combat plays out in real time on an overhead view rather than turn-based menus, so positioning and timing your attacks matters more directly than stat management, though leveling up your forms over the course of the game still increases their strength.

The story visits real historical locations reimagined as dungeons — places like the Nazca Lines and Angkor Wat — mixing action RPG combat with light puzzle-solving as you explore each one.

Tips to Master Illusion of Gaia

Switch forms to match the obstacle in front of you rather than sticking with one for the whole game — Freedan and Shadow are each clearly better suited to certain enemies and terrain.

Explore fully before moving on

Since statues and companions are gained through exploration rather than always being obvious story beats, checking side areas of each dungeon pays off later.

Use real-time positioning, not just attacking

Because combat is action-based rather than turn-based, dodging around an enemy's attack pattern matters as much as landing your own hits.
