Instructions

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 introduces the spin dash, letting you build speed from a standstill instead of needing a running start, which opens up sections of levels that were previously only reachable at full sprint.

Tails tags along as a second character controlled by the game, and while a second player can take control of Tails directly, even playing solo his presence can occasionally help clear a path or grab extra rings.

Collecting all seven Chaos Emeralds through the half-pipe special stages unlocks Super Sonic — a temporary, ring-cost transformation that grants near invincibility and greatly increased speed, provided you have enough rings to sustain it.

Controls

Arrow keys — move / D-pad
Down + jump while moving — spin dash for a burst of speed
Z — jump
Enter — Start — pause the game

Tips to Master Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Use the spin dash to start fast, not just to save momentum — many level openings are designed around it rather than a running start.

Keep a ring reserve for Super Sonic

Since the transformation drains rings over time, entering it with only a few rings ends it almost immediately.

Learn the half-pipe special stage's steering before rushing it

The special stages control differently from the main game, and a slow first attempt to learn the feel usually beats trying to sprint through blind.
