Instructions

SimCity 2000 hands you an empty map and a starting budget, and it's up to you to zone land for housing, shops, and industry, then connect it all with roads, power lines, and water pipes so those zones can actually develop.

Growth isn't automatic — zoned land only develops into buildings if it has power, water, and road access, and a city that grows faster than its infrastructure can support quickly runs into problems like traffic, blackouts, or unhappy residents.

Balancing the budget matters as much as building: taxes fund your infrastructure and services, but rates set too high slow growth, while overspending on infrastructure the city doesn't yet need can drain your funds before it pays off.

Tips to Master SimCity 2000

Build infrastructure slightly ahead of demand, not far ahead of it. Overbuilding roads and power before you have the zoned population to use them wastes budget that could fund something more immediately useful.

Keep an eye on your budget report, not just your treasury total

Since ongoing costs like road and service upkeep run every cycle, a healthy bank balance today can still be heading toward a deficit if spending outpaces income.

Mix zone types instead of building in large single-purpose blocks

Cities that blend residential, commercial, and industrial zones in reasonable proximity tend to grow more smoothly than ones built as isolated single-purpose districts.
